Eplerenon blokuje činnost hormonu aldosteronu v těle. Aldosteron významně ovlivňuje regulaci krevního tlaku. Eplerenon se používá k léčbě městnavých srdečních selhání po infarktu. Eplerenon se dále používá k léčbě vysokého krevního tlaku (hypertenze).

Obecný Aldactone se používá k léčení otoků a zadržování tekutin u pacientů s městnavým srdečním selháním, cirhózou nebo problémy s ledvinami ( nefrotický syndrom ). Také se používá k léčbě vysokého krevního tlaku. Může být také použit k léčbě nebo prevenci nízké hladiny draslíku.
